To those who enjoy both walking and visiting country pubs the book will have strong appeal. The 20 circular walks vary in length from 3 to 5 miles and each route is described in detail with its own accompanying sketch map. The pubs have been selected for their good food and the routes give the walker the opportunity to experience some of the truly glorious countryside in Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire

Some good walks albeit some a bit dated. But price reflects that it is not a very recent publication.

I feel that I must write a review in praise of this useful little book.If like myself you are 50 something running to fat and not very good with exercise, buy this book and discover the joys of the countryside(only if you live in the Chilterns of course). We as a family have completed many of the walks in this book, each one starts and ends at a pub which is very useful. The book is written with novices in mind with straight forward route instructions, there is no need to map read and we have found the author to be 100% trustworthy with his instructions. All the walks are easily managable by the semi fit and very enjoyable.

This is an excellent walking guide, well written with very nice walks and would suit the less adventurous walkers plus the pubs.It removes the need to use OS maps that so many other guides do.

We take turns organising walks with a group of friends and we used the Guide to find a walk in the Chilterns. Really beautiful walk which we would never have found without the book. Will definitely try some of the other walks shown. My only criticism is Alan Charles' directions i.e. turn 180 degrees seem to actually mean turn left? Apart from this, the book was very good!

Some good ideas. I would like to see these books backed up with a link to a website where gpx data can be downloaded to smartphone apps such as back country navigator. Sometimes, waymarkers along the route can get defaced/removed so it's handy to have a backup plan.Always a good idea to make sure pubs still allow dogs before setting out.

Really informative, and with some stunning walks varying from gentle to more demanding, and all including really lovely pubs. But in this day and age of the internet, it's wise to check online for the up to date opening times of the pubs in question.
